The Sweetgreen Outpost project was conceived as a way to extend the reach and convenience of nearby Sweetgreen locations, by providing pop-up pick up sites in high traffic areas, such as office buildings. While the program was in its infancy, we were approached with the proposal to design a modular system which could facilitate these pick ups and extend the brand ethos physically; embodying the idea of "building healthier communities by connecting people to real food" through both the design and the design process.
To this end, our approach followed suit. We designed a modular shelving system which can be extended and added to infinitely, made from domestic materials by local manufacturers. We worked closely with the Sweetgreen team to develop a structure which could easily be assembled, requiring minimal hardware, and also be flat-packed for shipping. We also developed several accessories for the system to provide the necessities beyond structure; namely signage, utensil holders, and tags.
A second version of this system was subsequently developed, with technology integration, for the Sweetgreen 3.0 store in New York.
